The ousted government of Sheikh Hasina cancelled the authority of Technical Education Board to conduct examinations for assessing the students of technical schools and award certificates. The board lodged a writ petition to get the authority back. In this connection, the first hearing went on today on August 28. The hearing of the writ in the High Court is likely to resume next Sunday.
Earlier on Sunday (August 25), the writ was filed by Khandokar Hasan Shahriar, the founder of Advocate Hasan & Associates and a lawyer of the Supreme Court of Bangladesh, in the High Court bench of Justice Ashish Ranjan Das and Justice Fahmida Quader. Advocate Effat Ara Khanam appeared for the petitioner in the court.
The petitioner Bangladesh Supreme Court lawyer Khandokar Hasan Shahriar said that the reasons for challenging the validity of the National Skill Development Authority Act-2018 (Act No. 45) have been presented in the court of His Highness.
The petition sought the directives to cancel the Decision No. 6 of the first meeting of the Governing Board of the National Skill Development Authority which was chaired by Sheikh Hasina, the ousted Prime Minister of the then government and the Chairman of the Governing Board of the National Skill Development Authority on July 31, 2022.
Accordingly, the petition asks the cancellation of the decision 2(a) taken on the 13th meeting chaired by the Chief Secretary of the then Prime Minister Tofajjol Hossain Mia, which was held on February 12, 2024.
In addition, the petition seeks the cancellation of the decision of the meeting of the National Skill Development Authority held on June 26, 2024 chaired by the then Minister of Education Mohibul Hasan Chowdhury.
