Mobile operator Banglalink has come to the side of the flood victims of Cumilla, Noakhali and Feni regions, which have been seriously affected by the severe flash floods in the south-eastern and eastern regions of the country. The operator will provide free talk time and internet facilities to meet the communication needs of people in flood affected areas.
Heavy rains and upstream hill slides have overflowed the river, inundating houses, roads and farmland in low-lying areas. Thousands of people are currently stuck in water. Transportation facilities and people’s lives and livelihoods are at risk. Concerns about food security are also increasing. Despite taking various initiatives to ensure security including distribution of relief, the situation is deteriorating due to continuous rain.
Banglalink users in the flood affected areas of Cumilla, Noakhali and Feni can use 10 minutes of talk time and 500 megabytes of internet for free for a period of three days. Detailed information about the offer to Banglalink customers in the flood-affected areas, the benefits of the offer and the process of accepting the offer will be communicated through SMS. Banglalink has taken this initiative so that people in flood affected areas can contact their relatives and seek help if needed.
Banglalink’s Head of Corporate Communications Gazi Tawheed Ahmed said, “Thousands of people have suffered due to floods. Banglalink has taken this initiative as a socially responsible operator so that flood victims can continue to communicate even in adverse times. We want to stand with people by removing barriers to communication through uninterrupted talk time and internet access.”
