Zunaid Ahmed Palak, former State Minister for Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology, was arrested this time. He was arrested in the night on Wednesday (August 14) while hiding from Nikunja Residential Area under Khilkhet police station of Dhaka Metropolitan Police based on secret information.
Apart from him, former Deputy Speaker Shamsul Haque Tuku and Chhatra League’s Dhaka University Branch General Secretary Tanveer Hasan Saikat have been detained from the same place. All these three have been arrested in the case of murder of a rickshaw driver in Paltan of the capital.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Paltan Model Police Station Sentu Mia said that a woman named Fatema Khatun filed a case against them for killing a rickshaw puller in Paltan on July 19. After the arrest in this case, these three leaders were taken to the DB office at Minto Road in the capital.
Earlier on the afternoon of August 6, Zunaid Ahmed Palak was detained while traveling to Delhi through Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport, Dhaka.
On August 13, the Bangladesh Financial Intelligence Unit (BFIU) seized the bank accounts of Zunaid Ahmed Palak and his wife Arifa Jasmine Konika.
Zunaid Ahmed Palak was elected Member of Parliament on the nomination of Bangladesh Awami League from Singra Upazila of Natore District of Rajshahi Division in the 9th National Parliament Elections in 2008.
He was the youngest parliament member of Bangladesh. Besides, since January 22, 2013, this politician served as the State Minister of the Information and Communication Technology Department of the Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications of Bangladesh.
