For not resigning within the stipulated time set by the students, the offices of the Vice-Chancellor, Pro Vice-Chancellor and Registrar of Noakhali University of Science and Technology (NUST) were locked at night on Saturday. At the same time, the coordinators and students of the anti-discrimination student movement have declared them unwelcomed (Persona non grata) in the campus.
The students locked the main gate of Vice-Chancellor Professor Didarul Alam, Pro Vice-Chancellor Professor Abdul Baki and Registrar Md. Jasim Uddin’s office. At the same time, they removed the name from the name plate of the VC’s room.
Bani Yamin, Coordinator of the anti-discrimination student movement of the university, said, “The Vice-chancellor, Pro Vice-chancellor and Registrar have been declared unwanted on this campus since Sunday. They will never be allowed to enter this campus.’
Meanwhile, the Treasurer of NUST Professor Newaz Mohammad Bahadur confirmed his resignation to the media. He said that he is unable to fulfill his responsibilities due to family and personal reasons. He submitted his resignation to the President through the Ministry of Education. At the same time, he informed the matter to the registrar of the university.
Nawaz Mohammad Bahadur is the Chairman of Chemistry Department of Noakhali University of Science and Technology. He is serving as a member of the Board of Regents in Patuakhali University of Science and Technology.
On Friday night, the coordinators of the anti-discrimination student movement of NUST fixed the deadline for the resignation of the officials including the VC by 4 pm on Saturday. Later 9 people including proctor submitted their resignations citing personal reasons. However, Vice-Chancellor Professor Didarul Alam, Pro Vice-Chancellor Professor Mohammad Abdul Baki and Registrar Jasim Uddin have not resigned yet.
