On the 53rd birthday of the architect of Digital Bangladesh, grandson of Bangabandhu and the ICT Advisor to the Prime Minister Sajeeb Wazed Joy, a program titled ‘Trees for Peace’ was held. The Ministry of Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology has undertaken a plan to plant one lakh trees on the occasion of his birthday. 20,000 trees are being planted in several hi-tech parks spread across the country in the BTRC compound. The state minister of the ministry will personally plant 50,000 saplings.
State Minister for Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology Zunaid Ahmed Palak inaugurated the program by planting 10 medicinal plants in the Dak Bhaban compound of Agargaon in the capital on Saturday in the afternoon. While speaking as the chief guest at the meeting held at the second floor conference center of the building after planting trees, he said, “We have not shut down the internet.” Internet was shut down only due to burning three data centers and hundreds of kilometers of cable. Because of this only in the telecom sector there is a loss of 500 crore taka and a total of 100 crore taka.
Tarun Kanti Sikder, Director General of Postal Department, attended the event. Information Technology Secretary Md. Shamsul Arefin, Post, Telecommunication Secretary Dr. Mushfiqur Rahman, Additional Director General of Postal Department SM Shahab Uddin, BTRC Chairman Engineer Mohiuddin Ahmed, Hitech Park Authority Managing Director GSM Zafar Ullah and Bangladesh Computer Council Executive Director Ranjit Kumar were present.
