BUETians stand by the family of Begum Rokeya University English Department student Abu Sayed, who was shot dead during the quota reform movement. For helping the family of the deceased, a fund worth a million of Taka has already been received.
The information was shared at night on Wednesday, July 17, 2024 by the BUET students’ page ‘BUETian’. It has also been reported that the money will be handed over in cash to Abu Sayed’s family in Pirganj, Rangpur on Thursday (July 18).
According to the BUETian page, 10 lakh 50 thousand 243 Tk has been collected for the aid of Abu Sayed’s family till 10:30 pm on Wednesday. Out of this, 7 lakh 14 thousand 735 taka has been deposited through bKash, 1 lakh 68 thousand 705 taka through Nagad, 63 thousand 923 taka through Rocket, 93 thousand 880 taka in bank and 9 thousand taka through PayPal.
It has also been informed that this money will be spent on the needs of Abu Sayed’s family. It said, ‘We contacted Abu Sayed’s family and heard from them briefly about their needs. After hearing everything, we have decided on a draft.’
1. Repairing the house of Abu Sayed’s family.
2. Buying a cow.
3. Provision of land and appurtenances (as father is a farmer).
4. To arrange medical treatment for his brother.
Today a BUETian team will go to Pirganj in Rangpur to meet Abu Sayed’s family. It is also hoped that after going there and discussing, they will try to take the matter that best meets their needs. Besides, it is also informed that regular updates will be given on the ‘BUETian’ page.
Apart from Abu Sayed, efforts are being made to contact the families of those who were killed in the quota reform movement. It is also reported that money will be collected from the page for support and handed over to those families.
