Notun Kuri (The New Buds) was the only project from Bangladesh to be recognized by Innovate for Impact. The AI based mobile app is mainly designed for working mothers and midwives. It will also assist healthcare workers in intensive care settings such as neonatal respiratory distress.
Bangladesh Open University teacher Samrat Kumar Dey and his research team received this recognition in the Innovate for Impact category at the AI for Good Summit 2024 held in Shanghai, China by the International Telecommunication Union.
In the AI for Good – Innovate for Impact category, 219 use cases of artificial intelligence-based projects from 38 countries around the world were submitted at the summit. Out of 219 use cases, only 53 were selected for presentation in the Innovate for Impact category at the AI for Good Summit-2024 and published in report form on July 4 by the International Telecommunication Union.
As the only project from Bangladesh to receive Innovate for Impact recognition, project director Samrat Kumar Dey said “Our use case is relevant to United Nations Goals Sustainable Development Goal 3: Good Health and Overall Well-Being. The use case recognized at the summit will help reduce infant mortality in the country while diagnosing birth asphyxia using smartphones through machine learning technology.”
It should be noted that the Natun Kuri project has received an innovation grant from the ICT Department of the Government of Bangladesh.
