State Minister for Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology Zunaid Ahmed Palak has allotted two weeks-time to take the necessary measures to increase this income and to open .bangla and .bd domain rights to BTCL as well as to the private sector for the satisfaction of the domain receivers.
That’s why he suggested dot bangla to be open for all and dot bd to make the domain process smart through digital verification and dotgov full verified.
Palak said, we have to take action instead of hiding the illness. Small problems should not be hidden and should be solved with the advice of technical experts. Then it is possible to avoid destruction.
He gave this instruction at the ICANN outreach program held at the BTRC conference center in Agargaon in the capital on Thursday. The state minister urged ICANN to be a knowledge partner and be a host country to Bangladesh to ensure Bangladesh’s smart partnership in the Internet world.
The event will last for two days as a joint initiative of Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC), Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) and Bangladesh Domain Industry. On the occasion of the event, seminars, round tables and panel discussions are being held in various sessions with domain industry, academia and sector related experts of the country. Officials of public and private institutions related to telecommunication and information technology, teachers of various public and private universities and representatives of various telecommunication service providers are participating in the event.
In the inaugural ceremony, ICANN’s Vice President Government Affairs and Public Policy Leader Sameeran Gupta, ICANN Director Sajid Rahman, Co-Chair of APNIC’s Policy SIG Sumon Ahmed Sabir, BTRC Director General (E&O) Brigadier General Kazi Mustafizur Rahman, Language Technology Scientist Mamun Or Rashid, ISPAB President Imdadul Haque, BIJF President Nazneen Nahar, Asia Pacific Top Level Domain member Imran Hossain and others were present.
The event was conducted by the Deputy Director of Engineering and Operations Department of BTRC Dr. Shamsujjoha.
In the event, Sameeran Gupta said that the total number of internet users in the world is 8.3 billion. 200 crores are offline. By 2025, 75 billion internet devices will be used. 10 billion dollar online revenue is possible from domain in future.
Mostafa Al Mahmud, DGM of BTCL requested to start second level domain as soon as possible in the discussion meeting.
Brigadier General Kazi Mustafizur Rahman said the domain policy has already been prepared. I hope to implement the instructions within two weeks according to the instructions of the State Minister.
Sajid Rahman said, ICANN is working to make the internet universal so that language is not a barrier.
In the meeting, the businessmen opined that if the domain is left to the private sector, business will increase. At the same time, the stakeholders called for simplifying the domain process.
