President Md. Sahabuddin instructed the Bangladesh University Textiles (BUTEX) authorities to consider information technology and global contexts while realizing the academic activities of the university. Honorable president conveyed this instruction at Bangabhaban on Tuesday, 19 March 2024, while the BUTEX Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Shah Alimuzzaman met the president along with a delegation.
The Head of State said, ‘Textile is one of the main and highest foreign exchange earning sectors in the economy of Bangladesh in the current context.’ At this time, he mentioned that the role of textile engineers is very important in the modernization and diversification of the textile sector.
Chancellor of Universities of Bangladesh, President Sahabuddin called on businessmen, investors and textile engineers to come forward to make Bangladesh’s textile products more popular and attractive in the world market.
During the meeting, the BUTEX Vice-Chancellor briefed the President about the academic activities of the University.
He said, ‘In 1957, when Bangabandhu was a minister of the then government, Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman allotted land in Tejgaon for the construction of academic and residential buildings of the Textile Institute and started the construction of the institute.’
BUTEX Vice-Chancellor further said, ‘Later Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina established it as Bangladesh Textile University in 2010.’
He sought the full cooperation from the President in running the university. The secretaries of the President’s office were present at that time.
