With the aim of developing the IT sector of Bangladesh, South Korea has expressed interest in investing in the establishment of ‘Smart Islands’. The Ambassador of South Korea to Bangladesh Park Yong Sik Dak expressed his interest in investing in Smart Island in the model of South Korea’s Giga Island while met State Minister for Telecommunication and Information Technology Zunaid Ahmed Palak in his office room at the Bangladesh Secretariat on Tuesday.
During the meeting, they exchanged views on various matters of mutual interest, particularly the progress of the postal, telecommunication and information technology sectors. The state minister pointed out the excellent relations between Bangladesh and South Korea, two friendly countries, and said, ‘South Korea is one of the development partners of Bangladesh. Bangladesh-Korea relations have progressed a lot in the past few days. We want to further this relationship in the coming days. There are more opportunities to work together in the areas of knowledge exchange, innovation, establishment of smart post offices, telecommunication infrastructure and information technology.
The State Minister highlighted the implementation of Smart Bangladesh Vision 2041 after the construction of Digital Bangladesh and said that under the visionary leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, Bangladesh has set an exemplary instance in the development of digital technology in the last 15 years. In this continuation, the development of Bangladesh is the wonder of the world. He said that Bangladesh’s telecommunication and information technology has become a very attractive sector for investment. As a result of the government’s investment-friendly policy, Bangladesh is a very profitable country for investment. He urged the Ambassador to take this opportunity of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s investment-friendly policy to encourage more investment in Bangladesh, especially in smart postal services, telecommunication infrastructure and information technology sectors. He emphasized the necessity of holding Bangladesh Korea Summit on ICT.
The ambassador of South Korea assured cooperation in this regard and said that Bangladesh a decade ago and Bangladesh today are unimaginable.
