The teachers of Patuakhali Science and Technology University (PSTU) have suspended their agitation and returned to classes and examinations after the dismissal of the officer accused of teacher slander. As a result, academic activities have started after a long 14-day deadlock centered around the incident of teacher assault.
All academic activities of the university started from 9 am on Monday, the March 4th.
Professor Asaduzzaman Mia, General Secretary of the University Teachers’ Association said, “We have protested to demand necessary action against the accused in the incident of slandering the teacher. University authorities have taken action against the accused. So, we called off the agitation and the teachers participated in academic activities as usual.
Earlier, the university authorities ordered the temporary suspension of the accused officer Samsul Haque on Sunday.
It may be recalled that, on February 17 at around 9 pm in the dining room of Krishi Kunjo of the university teachers and staff, an officer Samsul Haque assaulted Nazrul Islam, the Chairman and Assistant professor of post-harvest technology and marketing department. In this incident, teachers boycotted classes and called for agitation. The university administration formed a seven-member committee to investigate the matter. The committee submitted its report indicting Samsul Haque on February 22. After that the university authorities decided to expel him.
At 10:00 p.m. on Sunday, 03 march, 2024, through a circular signed by Registrar Professor Dr. Santosh Kumar Bose and approved by the PSTU Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Swadesh Chandra Samanta, the accused officer Samsul Haque Russell was suspended from service in the case of insulting the teacher. At 11:00 p.m. on that day, another notification signed by Professor Jehad Parvez, President of PSTU Teachers’ Association and General Secretary Professor Dr. Asaduzzaman Mia informed that from Monday (March 4) all teachers will participate in academic activities as usual.
