India is keen to share broad aspects of the most advanced technology defense manufacturing capabilities with Bangladesh. Based on this interest, the Indian High Commissioner in Dhaka, Prannoy Verma, proposed to raise bilateral defense cooperation to the next level by building joint ventures in the defense production sector.
Verma made this proposal in a speech given at a seminar on Indian Defense Equipment (SIDE) 2024 organized by the Indian High Commission in Dhaka.
Indian High Commissioner Prannoy Verma and Bangladesh Armed Forces Principal Staff Officer Lieutenant General MR Shamim spoke at the event organized by the Indian High Commission for the development of India-Bangladesh defense industry cooperation.
In the seminar, the Indian High Commissioner highlighted the progress of the Indian defense industry over the past decade under Prime Minister Modi’s philosophy of ‘Make in India’ and ‘Make for the World’, which has encouraged unprecedented investment in the Indian defense manufacturing sector and led to growing Indian defense exports.
The Indian High Commissioner described SIDE 2024 as a reflection of the Indian defense industry’s interest in partnering with Bangladesh and a sign of taking India-Bangladesh defense cooperation to the next level, including the utilization of the $500 million line of credit extended by the Government of India to the Government of Bangladesh.
A number of India’s leading defense equipment manufacturers from both the public and private sectors participated in the event. It also showcased ‘Made in India’ defense equipment, technologies and platforms. The seminar was attended by representatives of the Bangladesh Armed Forces as well as paramilitary and police forces.
