Movement of teachers and students is going on for the third day demanding the permanent dismissal of the accused officer (PO to PROVC) Shamsul Haque Russell in the incident of beating up Nazrul Islam, Assistant Professor of Food and Nutrition Science Faculty of Patuakhali University of Science and Technology (PUST).
On Tuesday, February 20, the ongoing movement of teachers and students started at 10:30 am and 11:00 am.
In the ongoing program of the teachers’ association, a sit-in program was first held at 10:30 am in the Academic Building of PUST. Later, an emergency meeting was held with the faculty deans and department chairmen at the Vice Chancellor’s office at 11 am. At 11:30 a.m., a silent march and human chain program of teachers was held at the administrative building of PUST.
On the other hand, a silent procession was held from TSC premises at 11:00 a.m. as part of the ongoing movement of students wearing black cloths to establish respect for teachers.
Rakibul Islam, the spokesperson of the students’ movement, said, ‘Our demand is only one – the permanent dismissal of the official Samsul Haque Russell accused of assaulting the teacher. Until that is done, our movement will continue.’
Professor Jehad Parvez, president of the teachers’ association, said, “We will not back down from our logical movement, but if the vice-chancellor gives the press release today for the expulsion of Samsul Haque Russell, the officer accused in teacher assault, we will go back to class-examination and academic activities right today.”
