On Sunday, January 28, 2024, a seminar on ‘Safe Internet Use’ was held at Kabi Nazrul Auditorium in Sylhet with the participation of 530 students, teachers and parents of different educational institutions in Sylhet City Corporation under the initiative of National Cyber Security Agency.
at the beginning of the seminar, materials and cyber security leaflets were distributed among the students, teachers and participants. The seminar was organized by National Cyber Security Agency and District Administration, Sylhet with the support of UNDP Bangladesh.
Director General of National Cyber Security Agency Abu Saeed Md. Kamruzzaman was present as the chief guest and keynote speaker in the seminar. District Cultural Officer. Senior police officers, district education officers, officials and employees of the District Commissioner’s office, social workers, NCSA officials and permanent journalists were also present in the seminar. Sylhet Deputy Commissioner Sheikh Russel Hasan presided over the event
In his welcome speech at the seminar, Additional Deputy Commissioner (Education and ICT) Hossain Md Al-Junaid thanked NCSA and UNDP Bangladesh for organizing the seminar. The welcome speaker emphasized the cyber security at personal and institutional level. He said that students should be very careful when using social media. In the internet world everything remains in evidence. So before sharing anything, check the truth of the news and share it.
While discussing, the District Education Officer Mr. Abu Saeed Md. Abdul Wadud said, Internet world is a treasure of knowledge. During the COVID 19 pandemic, students studied at home, completed their syllabus. But as internet usage has grown, so have the security risks. Be more careful when using digital devices. He asked teachers to motivate students to complete basic cyber security courses in educational institutions.
Assistant Superintendent of Police Samrat Talukder opined that we are still not used to using safe internet. He expressed the hope that today’s young students will lead Smart Bangladesh and learn how to keep themselves and the country safe by using the internet properly.
Jennifer Alam, director of Safer Internet for All, said everything in the cyber world leaves a footprint. You should refrain from defaming others by creating fake accounts on social media, befriending strangers, cyberbullying friends. As a result, you and everyone around you can stay safe.
Keynote presenter and chief guest National Cyber Security Agency Director General Abu Saeed Md. Kamruzzaman shed light on the 4 pillars of Smart Bangladesh. He said that a disciplined student can develop himself as a smart citizen and build a smart Bangladesh. Students should be aware of using internet. Family values alone can keep a young student away from the world of crime. Besides, he highlighted the requirements of the newly passed Cyber Security Act, 2023 and various aspects of cyber security. He also highlighted various activities and future plans of the National Cyber Security Agency.
Sadat Rahman, Founder President of Cyber Teens Foundation presented various examples of cyber bullying in his talk and highlighted what can be done to prevent it and asked the teenagers to inform the hotline number 13219 inaugurated by the Honorable Prime Minister if they are victims of cyber bullying. He conducted a cyber security quiz competition with the students present and prizes were distributed among the winners.
The participants of the seminar presented various questions related to cyber bullying, cyber security, awareness campaigns, personal data protection and safe internet usage. Keynote presenters, panelists, and NCSA officials provided appropriate answers to these questions.
