The court sentenced Manjur Alam Shikder and his wife Sabia Chowdhury to six months in prison in the case of check dishonor made by a car driver. At the same time, they have been fined 3 lakh 46 thousand 500 taka.
Nikunj Bihari Acharya, counsel for the plaintiff, said that while the check was submitted for encashment at the District Council Hall branch of Sonali Bank Limited, it was dishonoured.
On Thursday, January 25, Judge Tasruzzaman of Dhaka’s Second Joint Metropolitan Sessions Judge Court announced the verdict. As the accused were absconding at the time of the verdict, the court issued arrest warrants against them.
According to the details of the case, on June 8, 2021, the victim Nuruzzaman Rippon, a driver of the Dhaka Special Judge Court-7, ordered a motorcycle for purchase at a discount from Alesha Mart Limited. For this, he paid Tk 2 lakh 50 thousand 310 in cash and through bKash account. Even after 45 days passed after the payment was made, Alesha Mart did not hand over him the motorcycle. A check of Tk. 3 lakh 46 thousand 500 was paid for the compensation of motorcycle on 28 December, 2021 after failing to hand over the motorcycle several times. Later, on March 20, 2022, when the check was submitted for encashment at the District Council Hall branch of Sonali Bank Limited, it was dishonored. Later, when contacted Alesha Mart several times about the money, they started arguing.
The victim Nuruzzaman is the driver of Dhaka Special Judge Court-7. In this incident, on May 19, 2022, he filed a case against Alesha Mart as a plaintiff. Taking cognizance of the case, summons was issued to the accused to appear in court. However, as they did not appear, the court issued an arrest warrant against them.
