Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives Minister Md. Tajul Islam said that the Directorate of Local Government Engineering has played a major role in the development of various infrastructures including rural roads in the country. Moreover, the quality of various projects executed by LGED has now increased a lot. As a result, various facilities of the city can now be easily delivered to the people of the village. The contribution of the Local Government Engineering Department to the socio-economic development of the country is therefore undeniable.
The minister expressed his remarks while speaking as the chief guest at a discussion meeting on the progress of the development work being implemented by LGED and administrative issues at the Directorate of Local Government Engineering on Thursday. Muhammad Ibrahim, secretary of the local government department, was present as a special guest and Md. Ali Akhtar Hossain while the Chief Engineer of the Local Government Engineering Department presided over the event.
Md. Tajul Islam said, due to the improvement of communication system, many opportunities have been created for the youth to earn income on digital platforms through freelancing in villages. This has reduced the tendency of people to move towards the city and the rural economy is also getting stronger.
At this time, the minister informed that laboratories have been set up at half the upazila level of the country to maintain the quality of various works of the local government engineering department and said that soon laboratories will be set up in the rest of the upazilas so that the quality of various works go correctly. At this time, he instructed to increase the load capacity of various roads in the village and said that, as a result of the strengthening of the village economy, there is now a trend of heavy vehicles moving on the village roads, so thinking about the future, we have to build infrastructure and roads accordingly. However, sometimes while taking the policy of cost reduction, the minister emphasized on the issue that the quality of work should not be lost for a small amount of money.
The local government minister urged to complete the various ongoing projects within the specified time and said that feasibility study should be done before taking up new projects. At this time, he said about foreign financing for various projects, it is beneficial for our economy if we get foreign financing for various projects.
Md. Ali Akhtar Hossain, Chief Engineer of the Directorate of Local Government Engineering, highlighted the contribution of this institution to the development of the country and said that LGED is working continuously to carry the benefits of the city to the villages and due to the improved communication system, it is contributing to the socio-economic progress.
Local Government Department Secretary Muhammad Ibrahim in his speech assured all possible cooperation from the Ministry to solve various problems of Local Government Engineering Department.
