Director General (DG) of the Directorate of Information and Communication Technology, Mustafa Kamal said, the govt has taken some steps to ensure that freelancers may get CIP (Commercially Important Person) status as a remittance fighter. It is about the final stage and might be announced soon.
He further said, we will give good quality training to the freelancers. Those who start earning dollars after getting the training, only get the certificate. Seamlessly, we will give CIP status to successful freelancers while they cross the required limit.
He said these things in the speech of the chief guest at the award-giving and special discussion meeting organized by the initiative of Bangladesh Freelancer Development Society (BFDS) on Sunday (December 10) evening. This event was organized on the occasion of Digital Bangladesh Day and International Human Rights Day.
In the speech of the chief guest, DG Mostafa Kamal of the Directorate of Information and Communication Technology said that there was a time when Bangladeshis used to spend money and work abroad and send remittances from abroad. But freelancers are bringing remittances in the country without spending money. Job-oriented training is being arranged so that village children can earn as freelancers instead of spending money abroad. After freelancing we also started working with nano-technology.
He said, we want freelancers to build institutions at the upazila level to live well with everyone. Along with freelancing, you are also proficient in cyber security. It also has a large market in the country. We are now including cyber security subjects in the university to strengthen the security of the country’s banks. Let us not be subjugated. We also want to be like Taiwan.
Meghna Bank Deputy Manager Md. Sadiqur Rahman was the special guest on the occasion. He said, we want to institutionalize freelancing. That’s why we want to bring established freelancers as well as new freelancers to our platform. We also creating a framework to build a sustainable freelancing ecosystem.
Under the chairmanship of Bangladesh Freelancer Development Society (BFDS) Tanjiba Rahman, BASIS Director Ahmedul Islam Babu, leading global enabler of a digital advertising company Httpool, Partner Director Munaf Mojeeb Chowdhury, Shadheen Human Rights Foundation Chairman Nazmul Islam, Bangladesh Digital Education Society Chairman Jasim Uddin Joy and others spoke at the event.
BASIS director Ahmedul Islam Babu emphasized that banks should enhance credit facilities in the technology sector as well as freelancers at the institutional and enterprise levels. He also urged freelancers not to overpromise low prices and affordability.
Munaf Mojeeb Chowdhury, Partner Director, HttpPool mentioned that, the most important thing for freelancers is ‘time’ rather than only skills. We are working on how best to use Facebook’s algorithm to generate our best opportunities at this time. We also trying to build a community to ensure the growth together. So we are also training those who are not our partners yet.
