About the adjustment of the increase in the mobile internet price by 12:00 on Friday, none of the three operators Grameenphone, Banglalink and Robi gave any message till 12:00 on Thursday. AMTOB, the operators’ organization, has not received any statement on the matter due to compliance with the competition law and no meeting with the regulatory body at the CEO level of the operators.
According to a reliable source, in honor of the Posts and Telecommunications Minister Mustafa Jabbar, the 7-day internet package will be reflected in the 3-day validity. Mobile operators have started working on this.
However, as of the writing of this report, according to the BTRC letter, no evidence of mobile internet price revision has been found. The website also showed 3 days data package at the previous price. There was no message about this at the customer level.
The reason for the confusion regarding the issue is that the mobile operators do not consider the language of the letter given by BTRC as a directive. Therefore, it cannot be viewed as an enforcement obligation or as a law. Moreover, the way in which the issue of fixing the price has been published, the stakeholders of the sector feel that it is in conflict with the tariff guide line and the competition law.
Meanwhile, a letter signed by Lt. Col. SM Rezaur Rahman, Director of Systems and Services Department of BTRC was given to the operators on November 7 due to the increase in the price of Internet while reorganizing the package after the delivery of the three-day package.
According to the letter, the prices of the newly introduced internet packages of different durations have created dissatisfaction, frustration and anger among the customers. The price of the three-day package will be the same for the seven-day period. The price cannot be increased again.
Three types of mobile internet packages are effective from last October 15. Instead of three-day, seven-day, 15-day and 30-day packs, customers can use seven-day, 30-day and unlimited packages. BTRC gave instructions to implement this decision in the face of strong objection from the operators.
The letter also mentioned that the price and volume of the three-day internet package will be kept unchanged and only the period will be extended to seven days. That is, even if the period is extended, the price of the package cannot be increased. 30 days and indefinite duration packages also cannot be increased. Following this directive, the state-owned operator Teletalk has, however, revised its packages.
