The President made this call to the authorities of all the universities of the country at the ‘Sixth Convocation-2023’ ceremony of the University of Professionals (BUP) locatedat Mirpur cantonment of the capital on Wednesday.
The President said, ‘There is no alternative to acquiring skills to survive in this competitive world. Science and practical education should be promoted everywhere, from primary to higher levels.’
The President said, ‘Efficient human resources should be developed through analytical and practical education rather than certificate-based and memorization dependent education.’
Emphasizing quality education including research programs as the first step in building a nation, the President said, ‘It (quality education) is not only economic development, but also the main means of intellectual growth, non-communal sense of life and above all deep patriotism.’
Stating that there is currently no alternative to demand-based and job-oriented education, he urged the relevant authorities to create an education curriculum in keeping with the existing labor market.

The Head of State directed the BUP authorities to give importance to research activities and ensure transparency and accountability in every work of the university. The Chancellor of the university advised the teachers to engage in teaching with sincerity and said, ‘Everyone should remember that education without joy cannot bring any benefit.’
Appreciating the relentless efforts of the BUP authorities to provide quality higher education, the Chancellor said, ‘BUP admission test, other tests and result processing is done through University Comprehensive Management Software System.’ He expressed optimism that BUP will continue its activities in providing technology-based education in various fields of knowledge and science as per the demand of the times.
Earlier, Abdul Hamid proposed to name BUP as ‘University of Excellence Bangladesh’ by attending the third convocation.
Bangladesh Army Chief General SM Shafiuddin Ahmed addressed the convocation as the convocation speaker. Minister of Education Dr. Dipu Moni, Food Minister Sadhan Chandra Majumdar, Education Deputy Minister Mahibul Hasan Chowdhury, Members of Parliament, BUP Vice-Chancellor Major General Md. Mahbub-ul Alam, Chiefs of three forces, University Pro-VC, Treasurer, Registrar and others were present.
After its establishment as the 31st public university in 2008, 29 thousand 892 graduates have successfully passed out from this university. In the sixth convocation, 36 graduates were awarded ‘Chancellor’s Gold Medal’ and 29 were awarded ‘Vice Chancellor’s Gold Medal’.
