The elections for the 2023-2024 term of Engineers Institution, Bangladesh (IEB), the oldest professional institution of Bangladesh, held in a festive and peaceful manner today, Thursday (February 9).
There was a lot of enthusiasm among the voters in the elections. Voters expressed their happiness to vote peacefully.
Police, Ansar, security personnel and 200 rover scouts volunteered to make the IEB elections fair and peaceful.
IEB Election Committee Chairman Engineer Mohammad Azizul Islam said, ‘Like last year, the election is being held in a fair, peaceful and festive atmosphere. All preparations have been made for the voters to vote in a fair and safe manner.
34 candidates against 10 central executive posts, 145 candidates against 27 posts of IEB Central Council members, 163 candidates against 88 posts of seven departmental committees were contesting in the IEB elections.
10 people were contesting for 30 posts of local council members against four posts of IEB Dhaka Centre. 29 candidates compete against 12 posts in Engineers Recreation Centre, Dhaka.
500 booths have been set up to enable voters to vote smoothly. Voters will cast their votes through OMR sheets. Counting of votes will be done by machine.
It is mentioned that voting is going on in 18 centers, 33 sub-centres, 13 international branches of IEB across the country including IEB central office from 9 am to 5 pm. This time the number of IEB voters is 17,601.
IEB was established on May 7, 1948 with the slogan ‘Build a Better World’.
