The Deputy Commissioner of Police (DC) of Mirpur Division Md Jasim Uddin Mollah has given the information about changing the IMEI number of stolen mobile phones in different areas of the capital and selling those again in the showrooms. The police came to know about the matter after arresting three members of a gang who changed the IMEI number of mobile phones. In this work, the arrested persons used apps.
He said in a press conference held at his office on Tuesday (February 7) at noon. Russell (31), a member of the gang was arrested by the police from Pallabi on Monday. Based on the information given by him, Kabir (25) and Md. Siam was arrested that day from Kafrul Thana area.
At that time, 110 different brands of stolen mobile phones, a laptop, a computer CPU, two SSD drives were seized from them.

After that we arrested Russell with 6 mobile phones and a laptop. Russell used to change the IMEI number of stolen mobile phones through apps on laptops and mobiles.
He said, by interrogating Russell, he got to know the names of Kabir and Siam, members of the gang. The gang used to change IMEI numbers of mobile phones at a shop called Bhuiyan Telecom on the 5th floor of Shah Ali Plaza. Kabir and Siam were arrested after raiding the market. At that time, 104 stolen mobile phones and computer hard disks were seized from them.
The DC of Mirpur Division said that the accused Russell said that he was involved in this work for the last one and a half years. The work of Russell’s gang is to change IMEI numbers of stolen and hijacked mobile phones. Some members of stolen mobile gangs buy stolen and hijacked mobile phones at low prices. Later he changed their IMEI numbers and displayed them in various shops for sale.
Jasim Uddin Molla also said that we are working round the clock to prevent mobile robbery and theft. As soon as we get the information, we are taking action to catch the thieves. He also said that a case has been filed against the accused.
In response to a question, the DC of Mirpur Division said that messages have been given to seven police stations in Mirpur. Mobile phones that are stolen or lost will be returned to the original owner after verifying the GD or case of the mobile phone.
