Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives Minister Md. Tajul Islam said, the incident of assaulting of Project Director of Chattogram City Corporation Md. Ghulam Yazdani is very sad. Whoever is the attacker, the law will run at its own pace; and swift legal action will be taken.
On Monday (January 30), 15 chief engineers and additional engineers of the Local Government Engineering Department appeared in the minister’s office room at the local government ministry and informed the minister about this sad incident and the suffering of engineers at all levels.
The minister said, I spoke to Police Commissioner Chittagong immediately after hearing about the incident. A case has already been registered in this regard and 4 of the 12 accused have been arrested and efforts are on to arrest the rest. The case is being handled by the DB wing of the police.
Chief Engineer Sheikh Mohammad Mohsin said that for not getting work orders, a group of contractors assaulted the project director Md. Ghulam Yazdani. The project director was physically assaulted and vandalized.
The Minister urged everyone to rise above fear and perform their assigned duties and assured that action will be taken against this wrongdoing. The State is bound to suppress miscreants wherever public officials are obstructed in the performance of their duties.
