Referring to the ‘Digital Security Act as a law of public importance’, Law Minister Anisul Haque commented that ‘there is a need to have an agreement with other countries to prevent digital misuse’. On the last day of the Digital Bangladesh Mela 2023, while speaking as the chief guest at the Bangabandhu International Conference Center, he said that the Digital Security Act has been enacted to provide digital security. If there is a law, the law will be misused and the matter should be followed. Awareness is essential to prevent misuse of laws. In this case, it is necessary to have an agreement with other countries to prevent digital misuse.
Tarek M. Barkatullah, project director of BGD e-Gov CIRT, presented the keynote at the seminar. He said that Digital Bangladesh will enter the developed economy by 2041. Over 14,000 malware-infected IP addresses have been identified in the past few years. In this way, hackers can damage any ID with malware such as ransomware. At the same time, the tendency of DDoS attacks is increasing. Advanced Persistence Threat, IPT risk has increased in Bangladesh. Hackers steal data and fake or sell it on the dark web. He commented that documents of Bangladesh are being stolen from other countries due to poor service.
Posts and Telecommunications Secretary Abu Hena Morshed Zaman said that cyber security is not a matter of a single party, everyone’s coordinated efforts are essential here. The discussion on the main article in the seminar was moderated by APNIC Executive Council member Sumon Ahmed Sabir. There will be some collateral damage in the implementation of digital security laws, but we have to iron out the mistakes through the trial and error process. Positive mindset of people should be created. Bureaucrats should be given time to become IT literate.
Director General of Digital Security Agency Md Kamruzzaman said that the nature of hackers is constantly changing. There is a shortage of cyber security specialists in Bangladesh. He called for more steps to be taken to protect children and teenagers from cyberbullying and hackers.
ADC of Dhaka Metropolitan Police Md. Nazmul Islam said that the law needs to be properly enforced to build a smart Bangladesh. Cyber security is as important to the state as it is to the individual. So he demanded to provide cyber security for all in all regions of Bangladesh. He said, there should be the ability to detect crime wherever it is committed. He urged the public not to hesitate to take the help of the police for cyber security.
Rashed Mehdi, technology editor of the Bangladesh Protidin, said, now the era of data science is going on; Bangladesh will lag behind if the capability of data science is not created in the national way. One of the biggest challenges in our society is controlling social media because most of the rumors are spread through social media.
