331 online gambling websites, 17 Facebook pages and 14 apps have been closed. Digital Security Cell of BTRC has blocked these sites. This information was informed in the meeting of the Parliamentary Committee on Ministry of Youth and Sports held at Parliament House on Wednesday.
In the meeting chaired by President Abdullah Al Islam Jacob, the member of the committee, State Minister of Youth and Sports Md. Zahid Ahsan Russell and Zakia Tabassum participated.
Earlier on July 24, the parliamentary committee had recommended the closure of online gambling sites. The meeting recommended taking necessary measures through discussions with the Ministry of Information Communication and Technology and Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) to stop online gambling using various websites on that day.
It was mentioned that BTRC’s Digital Security Cell has already blocked online gambling (including betting and casino gambling) and 331 gambling related websites, 17 Facebook pages and 14 apps following the recommendations of the Standing Committee in the meeting today. Besides, it was informed in the meeting that other sites, apps and pages related to gambling are being shut down.
The Secretary and Additional Secretary of the Ministry of Youth and Sports, Director General of the Directorate of Youth and Sports, heads of various organizations and the relevant officials of the Ministry of Youth and Sports and the National Parliament Secretariat were present in the meeting.
