Minister of Education Dr. Dipu Moni hended over the ‘TMGB-Luna Shamsuddoha Scholarship 2022’ and some educational materials to the children of the members of Technology Media Guild Bangladesh (TMGB). On Tuesday (December 13), the minister was present as the Chief Guest at the capital’s Biswa Sahitya Kendra Auditorium and handed over the awards to the students.
The scholarship has been launched in the name after the late Luna Shamsuddoha, former chairman of IT firm Dohatech New Media and Janata Bank. TMGB awarded these scholarships and certificates to 19 children of its members. Also 23 people were provided with various educational materials.
Abdullah Abu Saeed, founder of Biswa Sahitya Kendra, and Reema Shamsuddoha, daughter of late Luna Samsuddoha, were present as special guests in the event. The program was presided over by the TMGB President Mohammad Kawshar Uddin. Former Education Secretary Nazrul Islam Khan, President of Internet Service Provider Association of Bangladesh (ISPAB) also spoke. Imdadul Haque, Chairman of SAARC Chamber of Commerce and Industry Council for Communication and IT Shafkat Haider, former President of Bangladesh Computer Association (BCS) Md. Shahid-ul-Munir and others were present. The program was moderated by TMGB General Secretary Mursalin Haque Junaid.
While speaking as the Chief Guest, Education Minister Dipu Moni said that efforts are being made to transform education. She emphasizes on making learning fun. She said, ‘Education in our country had become joyless since many days. We want learning to be fun. Knowledge will be acquired, skills will be acquired, values will be learned and we will grow with them. And now skills are very much needed. Information technology skills, communication skills, teamwork skills should all be developed from childhood.’
She said that besides acquiring knowledge, children learn values, become humane, and include those things in the transformation of new education. The Minister of Education Dr. Dipu Moni also said that the work of formulating a new curriculum is underway so that the students learn everything by themselves. At this time, she urged the media to scrutinize and highlight the correct information while publishing news on various issues of education.
While speaking as the special guest, Abdullah Abu Saeed, founder of Biswa Sahitya Kendra, applauded the initiative of providing scholarships for the children of TMGB members. He said, today’s initiative is something that will inspire others. Instills new hope in students.
In the president’s speech, Mohammad Kawshar Uddin said, ‘We want our children to grow up with proper education. This is the first initiative for children. We want to take more initiatives for them in future.’
It should be noted that Luna Shamsuddoha, the leading woman entrepreneur in the field of information technology in the country, was born on October 4, 1954, in Dhaka. In 2013, she received various honors and awards at home and abroad, including the Global Women Inventors and Innovators Network (GUIN) award for advancing women in the technology sector and increasing women’s empowerment. This entrepreneur died on February 17, 2021 while undergoing treatment in a hospital in Singapore.
