We are doing everything to keep women safe in cyberspace, said Nasima Akhtar Nisha, President of Women and E-commerce Trust- WE. While speaking as a special guest at a program called ‘Cyber Security for Women’ jointly organized by CIRT and AA Foundation on Monday (October 24) evening, Nisha affirmed the initiatives taken by WE.
She said that women are particularly victims of bullying and harassment in cyber space. Many times they do not express it because of the environment. At one point it became a furuncle (poison boil). All the women entrepreneurs who work with WE are informed about various online norms through seminars and sessions throughout the year. In addition, workshops are taught specifically on managing Facebook groups, group policies and keeping account secured.
While speaking as the Chief Guest, Bangladesh Computer Council- BCC Executive Director Ranjit Kumar said that Bangladesh has come a long way in cyber security. Government’s Computer Incident Response Team CIRT is working in this sector. There is no option but to be aware of staying safe in cyberspace, not only for women but for all.
Chairman of Bangladesh Freelancer Development Society Dr. Tanjiba Rahman said, we have to transform the people’s power into mass power. Freelancing plays an important role in leveraging this large population of ours.
Here we are constantly subjected to various online harassment. Complaints are made about various things including asking for money on the page or in the mail.
She said, we have to be careful especially in the case of Facebook and Gmail. Because, from here basically all misdeeds start.
Bangladesh Supreme Court Advocate Nishat Farzana Nipa discussed in detail about the steps to be taken if somebody becomes a victim of online cyberbullying and answered various questions of the girls present in this regard.
Founder President of Double AA Foundation Shubo Islam, Head of Computer Science Department of City University Shafayet Hossain, Joint General Secretary of Central Executive Committee of Bangladesh Civil Engineers Society Engineer Jasim Uddin and many others spoke in the event.
The event was attended by hundreds of students from various schools, colleges and universities along with girls from different classes and professions.
