With the slogan ‘Empowering women, empowering lives’, the curtain of ‘Women e-commerce Entrepreneurship Summit 2022’ was drawn today at the Bangabandhu International Conference Center-BICC. Through this summit, two thousand successful women entrepreneurs came from online to offline. Along with them, thousands of entrepreneurs being connected online from 101 countries of the world including Japan, Singapore and Malaysia, the WE Summit was opened. Instead of usual pink color, the entrepreneurs dressed up themselves in black and golden.
The Liberation War Affairs Minister AKM Mozammel Haque inaugurated the WE Conference in a colorful festivity on Friday morning. Since its inauguration, apart from meetings and seminars, various products and services made and offered by women entrepreneurs are also being displayed in this two-day conference.
Rezwana Khan, Chief Executive Officer of StarTech, was connected virtually to the program which was hosted by WE President Nasima Akhter Nisha.
Among others, Information and Communication Technology Department Senior Secretary NM Zeaul Alam, Comptroller of Certifying Authority Deputy Controller Shahina Parveen, Bank Asia Deputy Managing Director Mohammad Ziaul Hasan Mollah, World Bank Private Sector Expert Hosna Ferdous Sumi and Online Advisor to WE Soumya Bose, Chief Executive Officer of SilkCoc Global spoke on the event.

While speaking as the chief guest, the senior member of the cabinet, A. K. M. Mozammel Haque, commented that, “Nowadays, women have taken their place in the top positions of government and private institutions”. The Minister of Liberation War said that now women are victorious in the country. The country now has a dozen secretaries, 5 women university VCs, a significant number of women judges. The Prime Minister has brought them to this place by recognizing their merit. Wealth is as secure for women as it is for men. When women advance economically, it is good for the family and the country as well. The government has launched training centers across the country to make women self-reliant by increasing their skills.”
In the event, Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Division Senior Secretary NM Zeaul Alam said that the government had announced to make the country a digital Bangladesh. The country is now going digital. Women are doing tech-friendly business with the benefit of this digital Bangladesh. Women are becoming self-reliant with various trainings in ICT department.
In the president’s speech, Nasima Akhter, president of Women and E-Commerce (WE) Trust, the organizer of the conference, said that entrepreneurs from all districts of Bangladesh have come offline today to attend the conference. She said, ‘We want to spread this week at the Upazila level. Those who are now sending goods outside the country first meet the needs of the country and then send them abroad. My dream is to make WE chapter in all countries outside the country. But WE will meet the local demand first. By the year 2025, WE will create one million skilled women entrepreneurs.
On the first day of the conference, workshops were organized on various topics including business planning for women entrepreneurs, low-cost uninterrupted internet services, product supply issues, financing for business expansion, product promotion on Facebook, product promotion through photos and videos and so on. Eight sessions were also held online.
On the second day of the conference, the top 20 women entrepreneurs will be awarded the ‘JOYEE’ Award. State Minister for Information and Communication Technology Zunaid Ahmed Palak will preside over the ceremony. It will be preceded by the National Youth Assembly.
