Posts and Telecommunications Minister Mustafa Jabbar has emphasized on the need to formulate ‘cross border policies’ for the expansion of digital commerce.
He opined so, at the inauguration of a three-day regional training on ‘Strengthening Supply Chain through Digital Commerce and Digital Marketing Platform Usage’ organized by Ministry of Commerce, UN ESCAP and BIISS for women entrepreneurs at BIISS Auditorium in Dhaka on Tuesday (September 6).
110 women entrepreneurs from Bangladesh, India, Nepal, Bhutan, Sri Lanka and Maldives are participating in this three-day training.
Posts and Telecommunication Minister Mustafa Jabbar said that digital technology has changed the lifestyle of people in the country. This technology is also playing an incredible role in creating women entrepreneurs. After the Digital Bangladesh program was announced in 2008, scoffers did not understand its depth and realized in 2022 that Digital Bangladesh means online shopping for sacrificial animals, getting government services at home, and keeping a non-existent life going during Covid-19 pandemic. He said that digital Bangladesh is not only an example to be followed in the world, but the minister mentioned that this program is a tool for building a developed Bangladesh without poverty and inequality by establishing a knowledge-based digital society in 2041.
In the event, Director General of WTO Cell of the Ministry of Commerce Md. Hafizur Rahman, Acting Director General of BIISS Colonel MA Sadi, Deputy Director of South and South West Asia of ESCAP Dr. Rajen S. Ratna, UNRC representative Ms. Subarna, South Asia Women’s Development Forum Bangladesh Chapter President Nasreen F. Awal and Women in E-Commerce Bangladesh President Nasima Akhtar exchanged their views.
The Minister of Posts and Telecommunications emphasized the need for cross-border policies to expand digital commerce. He urged women entrepreneurs to prepare for the 5th industrial revolution, saying that millions of women entrepreneurs have joined digital commerce. This pioneer of digital technology development described his experience of 35 years in digital technology and said that women are doing relatively well in the ability to use digital technology. He said that Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s Digital Bangladesh program is not only an exemplary program in the world, The Digital Industrial Revolution program started 8 years before the Fourth Industrial Revolution Program was conceptualized. This is also a milestone event. Highlighting the success of women entrepreneurs in digital commerce, the minister said that if our girls get a suitable environment, they will make an important contribution in advancing the digital civilization. The minister pointed out the immense role of mothers in creating human resources suitable for the digital age and said that mothers are the future builders of their children. Urging mothers not to discourage their children from digital devices, the minister said, they will use the devices but you will control them. He said, a knife can be used to kill a person and also to save a life.
Speakers at the event emphasized the need for training women entrepreneurs in expanding digital commerce. They mentioned that this regional training will contribute very fruitfully to the women entrepreneurs of the region.
