At present, the number of subscribers of four mobile phone companies in the country is 18 crore 4o lakh, informed the Minister of Posts and Telecommunications, Mustafa Jabbar. He said, currently there are four mobile company customers in the country. However, the minister also said that there is no plan yet to reschedule the call rate.
The minister informed this number in response to a question from Kazim Uddin Ahmed, a member of parliament of the ruling party in the National Parliament on Wednesday (August 31).
According to the information given by the Minister in the Parliament – Grameenphone has 8 crore 40 lakh subscribers, number of SIMs11 crore 14 lakh; Robi Axiata has 5 crore 48 lakh subscribers, number of SIMs10 crore 26 lakh; Banglalink Digital Communication Limited has 3 crore 85 lakh subscribers, number of SIMs 8 crore 26 lakh; And the number of subscribers of Teletalk Bangladesh Limited is 67 lakh and 1 thousand, the number of SIMs is 1 crore 33 lakh.
According to the minister, “subscription verified by biometric method” is meant as subscriber number. He said, those who were active on that mobile network at least once in the last three months.
The prevailing call rate was determined in the existing mobile companies by analyzing the market review, socio-economic context etc. of 2018. There is no plan yet to reschedule the call rate.
