The country’s government has announced the closure of Huaqiangbei, the world’s largest electronics market located in the southern Chinese city of Shenzhen. The market was closed on Monday (Aug 29) as part of Beijing’s zero-covid-19 policy. In the announcement, it has been announced to keep this ban in force until next Thursday that is September 1.
To be noted, Shenzhen is an international technology center of 1.8 million people. Where 35 people have been diagnosed corona positive, 11 of them are asymptomatic. The city has been identified as a ‘high risk’ area and placed under strict lockdown orders.
Authorities have reportedly closed 24 subway stations and hundreds of bus stations across Shenzhen, including the Huaqiangbei Electronics Market. Luohu and Longgang districts also closed entertainment centers and public parks, and banned gatherings in squares, from conferences and performances.
Chinese media South China Morning Post reported that, during this period, every trader and employee of each market must undergo a nucleic acid test (rapid test) every day, and after the opening of the market, traders and employees can enter the market subject to showing the test report to representatives of local administrative authorities. However, the closure of this largest market will have an impact on the electronics market of other countries, the Beijing authorities have not yet commented on this matter.
