Bangladesh has started working to become self-sufficient in microprocessing, artificial intelligence, robotics and cybersecurity to meet the needs of the country and the world as well, opined Sajeeb Wazed Joy, ICT Adviser to the Prime Minister. In this case, it may take a little more time for Bangladesh to catch up with other countries only in microprocessor design, but in the remaining three, this technology expert thinks that Bangladesh is able to compete with the world.
Sajeeb Wazed Joy commented so, while participating in the second meeting of the Board of Governors of Bangladesh Hi-Tech Authority held at Ganobhaban after the inauguration ceremony of Sheikh Kamal IT Business Incubator on Wednesday.
“In my opinion”, said Joy, “we desperately need to be self-sufficient in key-technologies which will be needed for our country and the world for the future,” Joy said. With that goal in mind we place the highest importance on microprocessing, artificial intelligence, robotics and cyber security. We want to focus on these four technologies for the future of a developed, prosperous and self-reliant Bangladesh. Microprocessor design, artificial intelligence, robotics and cyber security; we need to start working now to develop and enhance the capabilities of these four technologies. The future of every sector of the world, including industry and defense, will depend on artificial intelligence and robotics. So we have to plan and work from now on to increase our capacity as well as export and become self-reliant in the world market.”
He further added that the whole world is currently dependent on 2-3 countries for microprocessing design and manufacturing. Artificial intelligence is on the rise in everything for the digital world of the future. At present we have to bring this technology from other countries. My guess is that robotics will be used everywhere in the future. Robots will take over the labor market in all areas besides industry, defense, and agriculture. So if we can develop our own robotic technology then we don’t have to depend on others. As the economy goes digital, cyber security is of paramount importance. Although in our country some technology is being invented in these four cases. But in most cases dependent on others.
Calling on the youth to come forward in these technologies required to overcome this dependency, the Prime Minister’s ICT Adviser said that other countries have not come a long way in IoT and robotics. This is new technology. So we can easily catch them. Although it will take another 20 years to catch up with the countries that have advanced in microprocessors, we have to start working from today. Hopefully we can move forward in future microprocessor technology as well.
State Minister for Information and Communication Technology Zunaid Ahmed Palak, Senior Secretary for Information and Communication Technology NM Zeaul Alam and Managing Director of Hi-Tech Park Authority Bikarna Kumar Ghosh also spoke at the meeting chaired by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
Among others, Law Minister Anisul Haque, Education Minister Dipu Moni, Posts and Telecommunications Minister Mostafa Jabbar, Environment, Forests and Climate Minister Shahab Uddin and Land Minister Saifuzzaman Chowdhury and BCS, BASIS and BACCO presidents and general secretaries were present.
