Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina urged the President’s Guard Regiment-PGR to build a tight security zone by further enhancing its technical capabilities for the security of foreign guests including heads of state and government.
She made the call on Tuesday (July 5th) morning by virtually joining a ceremony marking the 47th founding anniversary of the Presidential Guard Regiment PGR.
Appreciating the role of PGR in security, the head of government said that the crime trend is also constantly changing based on technology. Therefore, PGR has to be equipped with modern equipment and further enhance its technical capabilities to ensure security.
Sheikh Hasina said that, she established the ‘National Defense College’ and the ‘Military Institute of Science and Technology’ in 1998. In 1999, she established ‘Bangladesh Institute of Peace Support Operation Training’ and ‘Armed Forces Medical College’. The Awami League government first started appointing women officers in the army, navy and air force in 2000.
