The Huawei Asia Pacific Digital Innovation Congress 2022 kicks off on Thursday, May 19 at the Singapore Marina Bay Sands. On the first day of the conference, Hon’ble Minister of Posts and Telecommunications Mostafa Jabbar presented a keynote address on Bangladesh National Digital Strategy and Practice. In the presentation, how the IT and communication sector of Bangladesh has developed rapidly since the announcement of Digital Bangladesh Plan in 2008.
BTRC Chairman Shyamsunder Sikder was present at the time.
Speaking on the occasion, he said that by the end of 2021, mobile broadband coverage in the country had reached 98.5% and the number of internet users had now reached 18 crore which was only 4 crore in 2018.
Mustafa Jabbar further said, “Internet has greatly changed the lives of the people of Bangladesh, and with the timely leadership of Hon’ble Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and the overall support of all stakeholders in the sector, Bangladesh has been able to effectively manage education, healthcare and economic activities even during the COVID-19 pandemic.”
In his speech, he mentioned the achievement of SDG’s target level 5B (1), 9C (1) and 17.8 (1) in the telecommunication sector of Bangladesh in 2021 published by the United Nations Broadband Commission.
He also shed light on how digital services can play an important role in the economies of different countries around the world. He discusses various ways to ensure sustainable growth through digital innovation.
Malaysia’s Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation Dato Shri Dr. Adham bin Baba; Huawei Rotating Chairman Ken Hu, ASEAN Foundation Executive Director Dr. Yung Mi Ying; Mrs. Azarin Pattanapanchai, Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Digital Economy and Social Affairs, Thailand; Simon Lin, President of Huawei Asia Pacific Region, delivered the keynote address.
