Ripon Mia, chief executive officer (CEO) of e-commerce company Qcoom, has been granted bail in all the seven cases. As a result, he could be released at any time. But now the creditors are expecting the highest vigilance of the government so that he cannot escape.
“There are seven cases against Ripon Miah,” said Subhash Kumar Ghosh, senior jail superintendent at Dhaka Central Jail. We have come to know that he has got bail in all cases. He will be released after verification and selection.
On the other hand, Ripon Mia’s lawyer Shahid Uddin Mia said that his client Ripon Mia has reached a compromise with the plaintiff in these cases. The court granted him bail on the basis of compromise. Earlier, he was granted bail in six cases. He was granted bail in the rest of the case on Sunday.
Ripon Mia was arrested about six months ago for embezzling money from a relevant customer. Seven cases were filed against him. Ripon Mia was granted bail in a case filed by Motijheel police station on March 7. In the bail order, the court said on the same day, “Bail was granted on a bond of five thousand taka considering the compromise between the plaintiff and the accused in the case.”
According to a report by the Central Digital Commerce Cell of the Ministry of Commerce, an application has been submitted to the Law Ministry on behalf of Qcoom regarding the resumption of business activities and bail for Ripon Mia.
According to the application, more than Tk 397 crore was seized at the gateway. The warehouse also has goods worth hundreds of crores of taka. Under the supervision of the Ministry of Commerce, the process of returning about 59 crore taka to 6,721 customers is underway.
Qcoom was established in 2019. The company has been accused of cheating customers by offering products below market value. Humayun Kabir alias RJ Nirab, the company’s Head of Sales (Communication and Public Relations) has been arrested in the case and is out on bail.
One of the victims who are not getting the product or not getting the money back by ordering to buy the product in Qcoom is talking to one on Sunday night. The customer, who did not want to be named, said that now the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) or the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of the police should send letters to all ports so that Ripon Mia cannot flee abroad.
