Oscar winner Will Smith has apologized to host and Oscar authorities on Instagram for slapping host Chris Rock at this year’s Oscars.
“Violence is just as harmful and destructive,” Smith wrote on Instagram, referring to the ‘emotion’ of not being able to accept a joke about a sick wife. My behavior at last night’s Academy Awards was not acceptable. Humor is part of our profession. But it was hard for me to bear the joke about the physical condition of the sick Jadar (Smith’s wife). As a result, I became emotional. So, I responded. Which was not right.”
The Oscar-winning actor further wrote, I publicly apologize to you, Chris. I crossed the line and made a mistake. Embarrassed for my actions. It’s not the kind of person I want to be.
“I apologize to anyone who has seen this behavior around the world,” Smith said. I apologize to the Academy Producer and all participants. I am deeply sorry. This behavior of mine has left a mark on the bright stage of the Oscars.
