The Ministry of Science and Technology awarded two scholarships and a research grant to 20 teachers, scientists, researchers and science students at the Osmani Memorial Auditorium in the capital on Thursday for research on national development. Minister for Science and Technology Architect Yafes Osman handed over the checks of the grant among the researchers selected on behalf of the Prime Minister.
At that time, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina encouraged the recipients of research by applauding from Bangabhaban. At the beginning of her speech as the chief guest, the head of government expressed her satisfaction that the creation of digital Bangladesh with the help of science and technology has made it possible to keep the state afloat even amid the ongoing pandemic. At the same time, Sheikh Hasina expressed hope that everyone in the country would be enriched with technology knowledge in future.
“We have built the structure with the Delta Plan,” he said. By correcting these in line with the times, if we can move forward with a plan based on this, then no one will be able to oppress the people of Bangladesh any more.
‘Bangabandhu Science and Technology Fellowship’ is awarded for MS, MPhil, PhD and Post-Doc programs in the field of science and technology at home and abroad. From the financial year 2010-11 till now 596 people have been given 225 crore 82 lakh taka. Besides, Tk 137.53 crore has been provided to 22,220 students and researchers from the financial year 2009-10 till now by providing ‘National Science and Technology Fellowship’ at MPhil, PhD and Post-Doc levels. Apart from the fellowships, the government is providing special grants to scientists and researchers. 178 crore 93 lakh taka has been provided in favor of 5 thousand 20 projects from last 2009-10 to the current financial year.
“When I came to power for the first time, I gave a grant of Tk 12 crore for research alone,”she said. “We started allocating 100 crore taka in the next year’s budget separately dedicated for research on computer education and science. Due to the reluctance of students to study science, I established 12 science and technology universities. So that, our students are more attracted to study science. I Opened the first medical university after overcoming many obstacles. Khaleda Zia had filed two cases against me while doing novo theater.
The Prime Minister said that, we have been able to move forward today as a result of research. To this end, we have already formulated a number of research and technology friendly laws and policies.
Dilip Kumar Sarkar, a teacher in the Department of Applied Physics at Rajshahi University, Md. Shahidul Islam, Md. Kamruzzaman Hossain, Assistant Director, Department of Fisheries; Sakibul Islam, Teacher, Department of Disaster Management, Begum Rokeya University; Afsana Begum, a researcher in the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology received the ‘Bangabandhu Science and Technology Fellowship’ scholarship at the event. .
The check for the ‘Special Research Grant’ was received by Abu Naser Md. Aminur Rahman, a teacher in the Department of Gynecology, Obstetric and Productive Health, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Agricultural University, Gazipur; Syed Md. Shamsuddin, BUET teacher. Parveen Sultana, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University teacher Anindita Dutta, Jashore University of Science and Technology teacher Mrityunjay Biswas and Dhaka University teacher Dr. Sumaiya Mamun.
Apart from the Special Research Grant, ‘NST Fellowship’ was awarded to Umme Salma, a teacher from Bangladesh Agricultural University, Mymensingh; Gayatri Sutra Dhar, a teacher from Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University, Dhaka; Humayra Anjumi, a teacher of Microbiology in Dhaka University; Atiya Sanjida, a teacher of Biology Department and Sumaiya Meem and Jawad Hasan, teachers of the Leather Products Engineering department.
Senior Secretary of the Ministry of Science and Technology Zeaul Hasan, Chairman of the Standing Committee on the Ministry of Science and Technology Dr. AFM Ruhul Haque and other stakeholders were present on the occasion.
