Over the two city corporations of the capital Dhaka and adjacent Gazipur and Narayanganj districts, the mobile operator Banglalink has not only been able to top in data services in the fourth generation mobile network but also could prove its worth in maintain the quality as the top mobile operator.
None of the other three operators could reach the 7 Mbps download speed limit on the Internet. Whereas, the speed of Grameenphone, known as SMP with maximum subscribers in this range, has a speed of 6.99 Mbps; Robi’s 6.4 Mbps and state-owned operator Teletalk’s speed was only 2.80 Mbps.
Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Authority (BTRC) has projected this image of the network by conducting tests in 13 districts of Dhaka, 39 upazilas and an area of about 1,309 km including Gazipur and Narayanganj City Corporation.
The call set-up and call-drop picture of the only state-owned operator in Dhaka is deplorable, according to the drive test report conducted on December 13 to 31 last year. While success is considered the norm for a minimum of 97 percent of total call connections, Teletalk could successfully connect 96.80 percent of calls. That means their average call drop rate is 2.59 percent.
Earlier, Banglalink was considered as the best mobile operator in 4G network in Sylhet and Rajshahi as well. No other operator has been able to meet the standards set by the regulatory body in that area for data services.
On January 21 last year, Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) Chairman Shyam Sundar Sikder inaugurated a six-month drive test to verify the quality of voice calls and data services in 300 Upazilas of the country. During the inauguration of the program, the BTRC Chairman instructed the concerned to ensure quality of service to the customer through modern technology and concerted efforts as well as not to compromise with the interest of the customer.
