Minister of Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology Mostafa Jabbar has called for love for ‘Bangla alphabet’ as well as the language and suggested the development of Bangla language corpus on the internet by involving all concerned people. He said, Bangla should be written in Bangla letters with hearty passion for Bangla, not in Roman letters. Therefore, he said, to increase the quality of Bangla content and to give importance to intellectual property in creating those. “If everyone comes forward, we will not lag behind”, he added.
Addressing the mobile phone operators, he said, “We are launching SMS service in Bengal from tomorrow.” But I think, like Robi, operators should now deliver the message in the local dialects to the marginalized people. Doing so will increase their business too.
The minister was speaking as the chief guest at a discussion on ‘Use of Bangla in Technology’ held at Robi’s head office in Gulshan on Saturday.
Mentioning that Bangladesh will be the leader of Bangla language in the world, the Minister expressed hope that it is through the development of Bangla language in technology that Bangla language is now in the third position in the world.
BTRC Director General Brigadier General Nasim Parvez, Bijoy Digital CEO Juin, Telecom Reporters Network Bangladesh- TRNB President Rashed Mehedi and Tech Shahar Editor Mohammad Khan also addressed the meeting while the event was conducted by Robi’s Head of Corporate affairs Shahed Alam.
In his speech, Rashed Mehedi, President of TRNB and Special Correspondent of Daily Samakal deplored that Bangla Corpus was not prosperous and there was no progress of Bangla project in 5 years of technology. In addition, through discussions with the embassies, the expatriates should emphasize on the introduction of Bangla form system in the countries, said Mohammad Khan.
Robi’s Acting CEO Riaz Rashid presided over the function.
Earlier, BTRC Director General Nasim Parvez emphasized the economic importance of Bangla language and highlighted the various initiatives taken by BTRC.
