Instead of leaving the halls, students have been protesting since Monday morning demanding the resignation of Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (SHUST) Vice-Chancellor Professor Farid Uddin Ahmed.
The agitating students have announced to gather at the handball ground of the university at 8 am on Monday.
Meanwhile, the provost of Begum Sirajunnesa Chowdhury Hall, Associate Professor of the Department of Anthropology Jafrin Ahmed Liza has resigned. Vice-Chancellor Prof Farid Uddin Ahmed said that the syndicate was adamant in its earlier decision to make the students leave their halls and return home. However, he assured that no case would be filed in yesterday’s incident. At the same time, he instructed to leave the hall by 12 noon.
On the other hand, an eight-member investigation committee has been formed into the incident of attack on the students.Dr. Rashed Talukder, a Professor of Mathematics department has been made the head of the committee. The committee has been asked to submit an investigation report on Sunday’s incident as soon as possible.
Contrarily, the residential students have vowed that they will not leave the hall even in adverse circumstances. The agitating students say they will not leave the campus under any circumstances. They even locked the administrative building asking them to leave the campus. As long as the ‘dictator’ vice-chancellor is not resigning, they will remain in the field of movement.
In addition to the Vice-Chancellor of the University Proctor Dr. Alamgir Kabir, the students demanded the resignation of the Director of Student Advice and Guidance, Professor Zahir Uddin Ahmed.
