Mohammad Russel, Managing Director (MD) and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of e-commerce company Evaly, and his wife Shamima Nasrin (chairman of the company) have been charged with check fraud.
A man named Tofazzal Hossain filed the case in the court of Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Begum Afnan Sumi on Thursday (December 9). The court accepted the plaintiff’s statement and issued summons to them on January 10.
According to the lawsuit, the plaintiff ordered the purchase of a motorcycle on February 26 this year by paying Tk. 1,49.635. The plaintiff was to have the motorcycle delivered within 45 days of the order. If not, he will pay two lakh and fifty thousand taka to the plaintiff for the price of the motorcycle. As the accused could not deliver the motorcycle even after the stipulated time, on June 28, a check of Tk. 2,50,000. When you go to the bank to withdraw money, the check is dishonored.
It may be mentioned that RAB raided the house of MD Russel of Evaly in Mohammadpur of the capital on September 16 in the afternoon. The couple was arrested at the end of the operation. The aggrieved customers then filed multiple cases against them alleging fraud. They were also remanded more than once. They are currently in jail.
