Boeing has almost reached the final stage to compete with satellite internet service providers like SpaceX and Amazon. The US Federal Communications Commission has approved Boeing to build a satellite broadband network. News Engadget.
With this approval, Boeing will be able to provide Internet services to homes, businesses and governments in other countries around the world, including the United States. However, Boeing did not say exactly when the company will achieve the capacity or will launch for the satellite network.
Boeing will operate the satellite at a higher altitude than SpaceX’s Starlink satellite network. While Starlink operates at altitudes of 215 to 350 miles, Boeing will operate non-geostationary orbit satellites at altitudes of 17,000 to 27,500 miles. In this case, even if the lagging increases, in reality the experience may be different.
Boeing has been working on this project for a long time. In 2017, Boeing was the first to apply for approval of a satellite Internet network service. In 2019, SpaceX requested the FCC to limit or cancel Boeing’s plans. However, even though SpaceX’s request was not granted, Boeing had to rush to get approval.
