Salman Fazlur Rahman, Adviser to the Prime Minister on Private Industry and Investment, said, “I am sure that as Walton moves forward, the electronics industry will soon overtake the garment industry in the export sector.”
Salman F Rahman said this while inspecting Walton factory at Chandra in Gazipur on October 23. At that time, he cut a giant cake to celebrate the success of exporting 1 lakh Walton refrigerators.
IFIC Bank Managing Director M. Shah Alam Sarwar and Zahidul Islam Bhuiyan, Private Secretary to the Prime Minister’s Private Industry and Investment Adviser accompanied him during the visit.
Upon arrival at the factory complex in the morning, the guests were greeted with flowers by Walton Hi-Tech Industries Limited Vice-Chairman SM Shamsul Alam, Directors SM Rezaul Alam, SM Manjurul Alam and Sabiha Jarin Arna and Managing Director and CEO Golam Murshed.
Arriving at the factory premises, the guests first enjoyed a video documentary built on Walton’s huge manufacturing activities. They then toured Walton’s well-equipped product display center. Afterwards, the guests observed the production process of various products of Walton including metal castings, compressors, refrigerators, air conditioners, LED televisions, computer-laptops, mobile phones, home appliances.
Gazipur Superintendent of Police SM Shafiullah Shafiq, Walton DMD Humayun Kabir, Alamgir Alam Sarkar and Liaquat Ali Bhuiyan, Senior Executive Director Col (retd) Shahadat Alam, Uday Hakim, Firoz Alam, Amin Khan among others were present at the time.
After the visit, the Prime Minister’s Investment Adviser told reporters that PayPal, the most widely used online payment processor for sending or receiving international payments to freelancers, will be launched in Bangladesh next December, ending the wait if all goes well.
