Until now, there was no need to pay any fee or charge to send money to another bank through app or internet. However, from now on, as per the instructions of the central bank, the bank will be able to charge a minimum of Tk 10 per transaction from the customers.
On Monday (October 18), the Payment Systems Department of Bangladesh Bank issued guidelines fixing fees and charges for Automated Teller Machine (ATM), Point of Sale or POS and Fund Banking for Internet Banking.
Bangladesh Bank has sent new instructions to the managing directors and chief executive officers of all scheduled banks operating in the country, mobile financial services providers, payment service providers and payment system operators. The new guidelines will be effective for transactions under Bangladesh Bank’s National Payment Switch and International Payment Scheme.
According to the directive, under Bangladesh Bank’s National Payment Switch, a customer of a bank can withdraw a maximum of Tk 15 from a customer using the ATM of a different bank to withdraw money as at present. And the bank card issuing bank will give Tk 5. In addition, a fee of Tk 5 can be charged from the customer for searching short statement as at present. In addition, a maximum of Tk 10 can be charged from the card issuing bank for transferring funds from an ATM and Tk 20 for depositing in another bank’s ATM.
Within the country, a maximum charge of Tk 20 can be charged from the customer per transaction for withdrawing cash using POS. In case of merchant payment using the point of sale of one bank, the customer of that bank will get a discount of at least 1.60% of the total transaction from the merchant. The card issuing bank will pay 1.1% of this as exchange fee.
Transfer of internet banking funds from one bank to another will be subject to a maximum charge of Tk 10 per customer and 0.6% of the total transaction from the merchant in Bangla QR. Of this, 0.4% exchange charge has to be paid to the card issuing bank. Paying up to Tk 25,000 for a card issued in Bangladesh will pay a maximum of Tk 20 per transaction from the customer for paying the tax for paying government services through the card. Of this, the banks concerned will pay the conventional fee for transactions exceeding Tk 25,000.
