The work of issuing smart card driving license will start from October 11. The Machine Tools Factory (BMTF) under the Army has taken this initiative to deliver the 12 lakh 45 thousand driving licenses stuck to the customers within six months of the start of printing.
At present, fingerprints of an average of about one thousand applicants are being taken every working day at the enrollment station of Madras Security Printers located at Pallabi in the capital. Under the agreement, the company will issue 4 million smart card driving licenses in five years.
BRTA Assistant Director (Dhaka Metro-1 Circle) Shamsul Kabir said the old cards are to be printed from October 10. Once printed on that day, the distribution of licenses will start from the next day. Printing will be completed within six months of the start of printing.
Earlier, Madras Security Printers was supposed to issue smart driving licenses from December 31. But due to the Corona pandemic, the authorities stopped taking fingerprints. For this reason, they extended the time in two phases.
