Russia has fined social media sites Facebook and Twitter for failing to remove banned content. A Moscow court on Tuesday fined Facebook a total of 21 million Russian Rubles and five million Rubles to Twitter. News Reuters.
Russia is currently trying to tighten control over US-based technology companies. These companies have also been accused of interfering in the country’s recent parliamentary elections. Following this, foreign technology giants in the country are being fined in different stages.
In the country, Facebook has already been fined a total of 90 million Russian Rubles and Twitter 45 million Russian Rubles.
Content on pornography, drugs or suicide is banned in Russia. And the country has always played a strong role in removing these banned content. Facebook and Twitter were fined for not deleting such banned content. Earlier, technology giant Google was also fined in Russia.
