The Association of Mobile Telecom Operators of Bangladesh (AMTOB) has elected Eric Aas, CEO of Banglalink, as the new president following the resignation of outgoing president Mahtab Uddin Ahmed from mobile operator Robi. He will replace Mahtab Uddin as the incumbent president till March 2022.
At a virtual meeting on August 25, AMTOB board members welcomed Robi’s acting CEO and Chief Financial Officer M Riaz Rashid as the board’s director and thanked Mahtab Uddin Ahmed for his contributions he made.
AMTOB President Eric Ass said, “The telecom sector has been making a significant contribution to the digitization and development of the country’s overall infrastructure. On behalf of AMTOB, we will continue to work with governments, regulators, policy makers and other partners to accelerate the development of the telecom sector and the country as a whole. We want to move forward by identifying various opportunities and challenges in the country’s digital infrastructure, economy and people’s livelihood.”
Yasir Ajman, Vice-President, AMTOB, said, “AMTOB is a collective voice of the telecommunications sector, playing a vital role in the wider interests of the sector and the digitalisation of the people of the country. I hope and believe that by working with regulators in this sector, we will be able to identify existing problems and contribute to accelerating the journey of implementing Digital Bangladesh.”
AMTOB Director M Riaz Rashid congratulated Eric Aas on being elected President of the Association. He feels that the industry has been waiting for some policy decisions for a long time to ensure sustainable progress in the sector. Riaz expressed interest in working with AMTOB under the leadership of Eric to bring about a positive change in the country’s digital transformation.
