Al-Arafah Islami Bank has started the 7th Bangladesh Junior Science Olympiad (BDJSO 2021) with the aim of forming a Bangladesh team for the 18th International Junior Science Olympiad (IJSO 2021) to be held in Abu Dhabi. The opening ceremony was held on Thursday afternoon through a Virtual platform.
Prof. Dr. Farsim Mannan Mohammadi, the Country Coordinator of the International Junior Science Olympiad delivered his welcome speech. He highlighted the overall aspect of the 7th BDJSO and said that this year IJSO will be held in a hybrid system. But we have to try to keep up with the slow progress that Bangladesh is making.
Sajjadur Rahman Chowdhury, Executive Director of Bangladesh Freedom Foundation, who was present, said, “Although most of the participating students participated earlier from urban areas, but this time, we have been able to reach remote areas as a result of organizing online programs. Another positive aspect is that the number of female students participating is increasing due to online participation.”
Abdul Qayyum, Editor-in-Chief of Biggyanchinta, who was present on the occasion, said, “Today’s event is important for two reasons. One is that during this pandemic we are able to organize such a huge event based on science. It will help people to be science-minded. Another is that we are able to take so many Olympiad exams online. We all come up with a plan by the Olympiad Committee, we can propose to take SSC and HSC exams online. We will be able to meet the challenges ahead in the field of education by using technology with the experience of these Olympiads, ”he said.
Jalal Ahmed, Vice President and Chief Public Relations Officer of Al Arafah Islami Bank were also present on the occasion was. He said, “Al-Arafah Islami Bank has been associated with this Olympiad since 2017. At the end of the program, Munir Hasan, vice-president of the Bangladesh Science Popularization Association, announced the inauguration of BDJSO 2021. He said, “During this pandemic, I have been able to organize examinations from Bangladesh in all international Olympiads. We can organize IJSO well. In addition, we can take the initiative to host the International Junior Science Olympiad in the next five years, ”he said.
It was informed on the occasion that the online regional episode of BDJSO-2021 will be held on Friday from 10:30 am to 12:30 pm. About 13,000 students have registered this year. On that day, students of class III to XI from all the districts of the country will come together on an online platform and participate in this episode. A national round will be held with the winning students in the online regional round.
The Bangladesh Science Popularization Association and Bangladesh Freedom Foundation are organizing this Olympiad for the seventh time for school-college students. The title sponsor of the event is Al Arafah Islami Bank Limited.
