Virgin Atlantic airline is considering launching a flying taxi service in the city. Initially, they are going to use ‘Electric Vertical Take-off and Landing Vehicles’ or EVTOL type vehicles for transporting passengers at various airports in the city.
Sir Richard Branson’s company is exploring the possibility of launching a taxi service with Bristol-based Vertical Aerospace. And this year, Vertical Aerospace is thinking of launching a test flight of its own vehicle.
According to Virgin Atlantic’s plan, EVTOL will use the vehicle to pick up people from any city, such as Cambridge, and take them to a major airport like Heathrow in nearby London.
Vertical Aerospace says their VA-X4 craft can carry four passengers and one pilot up to 160 kilometers. Besides, these will be pollution-free. Its sound is less than that of a conventional helicopter when it is moving, almost silent.
In the meantime, Vertical Aerospace has signed agreements with American Airlines and an airline called Avalon.
