A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) has been signed between the WTO Cell of the Ministry of Commerce and the Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) to set up a Center for Innovation, Efficiency and OHS to enhance the innovative and entrepreneurial potential of the garment industry.
On behalf of the WTO cell, Additional Secretary Md. Hafizur Rahman and BGMEA President Farooq Hasan signed the agreement on behalf of their respective organizations on Monday, in presence of Commerce Minister Tipu Munshi and Senior Secretary of the Ministry of Commerce Dr. Md. Zafar Uddin.
The purpose of setting up this ‘Innovation Center’ is to make it a center of future innovation in the readymade garment industry, establishing Skills and Occupational Health and Safety (OHS). As well as working to increase the knowledge of those who will lead in the production of ready-made garments in the country in the future.
Vocational training and job training will be provided to the graduates of Industrial and Production Planning Engineering and Textile Engineering. The use of technologies such as 3D designing and virtual prototyping will increase the capacity of the industry, which will ensure the use of time and money.
The center will launch a pilot program under the supervision of a renowned fashion designer and create a brand story by transforming local traditions into high-quality fashions and creating a global appeal. This initiative will help increase the capacity of mid-level management as well as build the workforce of the factory in relevant fields.
Among others, BGMAE Senior Vice President SM Mannan (Kachi), Vice President Shahidullah Azim, Vice President (Finance) Khandaker Rafiqul Islam, Vice President Miran Ali, Vice President Md. Nasir Uddin, Director M Ahsanul Haque and department heads and senior officials of the Ministry of Commerce were present in the program.
