Adviser to the Prime Minister on Private Industry and Investment Salman F Rahman said efforts are underway to bring PayPal to the country as an international payment gateway. He also said that a national task force would be formed for the development of e-commerce.
He made the remarks while participating in a virtual round-table meeting titled ‘Development of Digital Ecosystem: Role of E-Commerce’ on Tuesday.
“We have problems with our payment system,” he said. In fact, the big problem is that PayPal does not come to our country. I am trying very hard to bring PayPal to Bangladesh. PayPal is very important for e-commerce, not only e-commerce but also for freelancers”, he added.
Regarding the formation of a national task force for the development of e-commerce, he said, “Technology-based organizations are working separately with different ministries of the government. I think a national task force for e-commerce should be formed. There should be representatives from all ministries. After Eid, I will take the initiative to form a National Task Force by talking to the Prime Minister and Sajeeb Wazed Joy, Information and Technology Adviser to the Prime Minister. The task force will coordinate all the challenges in the development of e-commerce.

Saying that digital transactions in e-commerce payments have increased due to the lockdown, BASIS President Syed Almas Kabir said that people have reduced cash transactions due to the corona situation. Earlier, digital transactions in e-commerce used to be 15 percent, but now it has increased from 25 to 30 percent.
Shami Kaiser, president of e-Cab, said 35 new logistics companies were preparing to deliver e-commerce products to rural areas.
